Arusha National Park day trips are always rewarding experiences to come from within Arusha town, which is only 45 minutes away and the most accessible park in Tanzania. It’s not only handy, but it’s also the ideal site in the country to go on walking and canoeing safaris, placing you closer to the activity than anyplace else! Additional fees apply to both a walking safari and a boat safari. Despite the lack of major predators, Arusha National Park is home to Africa’s largest giraffe population and diversity of primate species.

Tour Plan

An excellent introduction to Tanzania’s extraordinary wildlife in a park that is close to Arusha but still gives you a true taste of the wild. This is also the only Northern Circuit Park where the acrobatic black and white colobus monkey can be seen with any ease. What else can you expect as wildlife highlights? Well, although there are no lion and few elephants, leopards and hyena do inhabit the Arusha National Park and our guides are always on the lookout for them. Giraffe and zebra are common sightings, as are dik-dik and waterbuck. Birdwatchers on this trip can keep their eyes open for trogon, turaco and flamingo – though there are many other species, too.

So close to Arusha town, this ‘little jewel’ of a park provides the opportunity for an excellent day-trip. Its shallow lakes and the wide Ngurdoto Crater are the chosen environment for a wealth of wonderful wildlife. Might Mount Meru towers above, a spectacular backdrop. Here you might see buffalo and elephant, zebras and antelope, plus some of the 400 recorded bird species. An early morning hotel pick-up ensures you get the most from this incredible day-trip.

Our safaris with this grading are suitable for those people with even an average level of fitness. Assuming that you already have that level, no physical preparation is necessary in advance of one of these trips, and no strenuous exercise is expected on them, though visitors will spend some significant time in vehicles on the sometimes rough roads of Tanzania – the so-called 'African Massage.' Accommodation on our 'leisurely' category trips is in private rooms in safari lodges, hotels, or tented camps.
